Natasha Owen lives in Brighton with her husband, daughter, two chihuahua’s and a pug. Her art is inspired by the environment, animals and anything that sparkles with life. She likes to paint subjects that reflect the humour found in her surroundings.
The style of work that she is drawn to is Western Contemporary Modern and Eastern Traditional, especially Japanese depictions of seascapes and waves.
She grew up in the beautiful countryside of Hong Kong, and as a child was incentivised by winning several awards for her art. She was discouraged from attending art school though, as she was told “there’s no money in that and you need to get a job!”.
After settling in the UK and having her daughter, she joined art groups and took private art lessons. As well as painting she tried jewellery making, glass craft and pottery. However, it is her skills from her earlier life in Hong Kong that are prevalent in her work. She is currently exploring with resin, which she learnt as a child, to encase and immortalise the beautiful aspects of the Brighton seafront.
