PAULO AKIIKI is a professional modern, vibrant contemporary African painter. He is a graduate from the prestigious Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and fine Arts, part of Makerere University in Uganda. He graduated 1998 and emerged with Painting as his Major. Paulo uses oils and acrylic on canvas as his preferred media. Many of his paintings use his signature style of spiralling brush strokes and palette knives, full of energy/with the sun as his signature.
He greatly admires the Dutch Master Van Gogh and his use of the Painting technique ‘impasto’ (which simply refers to the application of heavy layers of paint onto the canvas) and the masterly way he juxtaposes his pigments to trigger off endless emotions in the eyes of the observer. Paulo Akiiki has mastered the Impasto technique where he registers his messages or iconography by applying this approach. His technique guides the viewer traversing the canvas from one point to the next and back creating a continuous movement. He has an extraordinary touch with brush strokes, blending sweeping waves of romantic, smooth but rich and harmonizing hues into a well calculated pattern of rhythm that draws the observer into the golden sweet spot at the heart of the painting.
Paulo Akiiki’s paintings are attractive, its hard to resist when they call you!
